Hiya guys,

Just wondering but how many differnt speices of ant are there that live above the ground or make there nest on the ground. Basicaly all ants that to not burrow. I know u have ants like Nylanderi and Poly. Dives.. and then Asian tree ants.. But what others ????

Formica rufa are on the ground and thats the only one i know besides the ones you said

thousands, but its impossible to say how many as we dont yet know all the species that live in jungle canopies for eg, i believe there are more aboreal ants than terrastrial, Themnothorax live on the ground (terrestrial), and would not be class in the same way as Tree ants (aboreal)
