Camponotus??

Beitragvon SteveUK28 » 26. Jul 2008 10:47

Hi guys,

I received what i think is a camponotus queen today.. can any1 tell me what she is please?

Also she seemed stressed out and she seemed to have cotton wool stuck in her mouth.. is this possible.. i did try pulling it out with some tweezers but she just kept hold of it... Should i just leave her be or shall i try and remove it again after she has been in the dark for a few hours????

Sorry for the pic quality best i could do.

Many thanks

thats camponotos

havent you tried to help her out by getting that wool out of her mouth ?? :(
put her in the fridge for 50 secs and get her knocked out and pull the cotton wool out. should reduce stress. and camp's dont like stress, can kill the queens quite easily

hope all goes well :D

what makes camponotos 'pain in the arse'* (we are British you know), apart from the obvious way of getting this pain, as i am considering get one of these species.

Sorry to hear of your loss Steve.

my componotos is a pain in the ass because my queen's mental she attacks me when i put food in her test tube if im too slow when i do put food in the workers will take the food inside the test tube then the queen will take it back to the other end and if im really unlucky she will try and grab the food miss and attack the worker

gabrant, thats the normal behaviour. you just havent managed to understand that feeding inside the testtube is seen as a full assault on the nest. just feed in front of the tube, and everything will be fine. stressing out the queen like this is really not good for colony developement.

but what he is saying, if the tube is not in its own cut off area like a basin then you should put it in one with the test tube open and place food outside the tube so not to disturb them.
