well they might stop caring for the eggs ad instead us them for food because they know that they wont survive and even if your eggs turn into larva before they go into hibernation they properly wont survive without being fed

Hello guys, today I got 2 suprises, the first being able to see the true colors on my queeen, I was cleaning up around my ants, and I had to move them momentaraly and faced them toward the window, its a bright sunny day, and the front cardboard i have attached to the tank fell off, as i went to place it back, i had a quick look, and could see the some coloring on what i thought was the queen, but on furthur investigation, i realised this was not the queen, as she was clearly below at the bottom of the chamber, i grabbed my camera and took some shots, but sadly they are not as clear as i would have liked them to be. Though indeed when checking out the queen, she has indeed changed in color, or is it just that the sun shows there colors in a way camera flashes cant?.
Anyways, this other ant that is much bigger than the rest and smaller than the queen, also shows some impressive coloration, I am wondering if this is my first major?
I will try to get some better shots throughout this day, and post them if I am succesfull.

your nest looks very moist. Camponotus cruentatus is from
Spain, south France, so a really dry habitat. I think they will
be thankful if you give them drier chambers.

this is just condensation, it comes and goes, there are many chambers to choose, of which are dry, they choose to stay in this one, but thanks for the input.

yeah its just a touch to wet in there for them at the mo really nice job u have done with them, u and your ants seem to be getting on very well
cant really tell yet if its a major when u get more pics ill decide then!

it isnt a Major it is "only" a Media. Compare my Pics (it is from google - so
sorry for the small size..) with yours. And look at the heads.

wow thankyou Philson, thats some ant there, cool, so you have my cruentatus speciese too, how many in your colony before a major was born....
and if poss more pictures would be good, or do you have some posts with pictures already?

The best way to see if it is a major is the head. They have much bigger heads than the minors.

Off topic: It's been a bit busy lately (work and building a house) so i do not have much free time, like i used to. But i try coming here every day. (i'm addicted)

Hello guys, well today i noticed that my ants have began to knaw their way through the plaster/sand nest i made and looking at it closely i can see they have indeed been at it for some time, i just didnt see it, it's quite obviouse to see that they will soon be through it, enabling them to escape into the back of the glass tank, where i will not be able to see/observe them.
So to save myself a whole lot of trouble, i purchased a new gypsum nest with 6 chambers and antstores newly listed glass corner formicarium 40x40x20cm + lid, they should arrive in a few days time. But my question is, how do you suggets i move them all, i remeber the last time i had to move them, there was only 8 including the queen, which was soo stressfull (for me) now i have 50+ i am quite worried about this, so any help/tips/advise i would really apreciate....
I guess this will be the last time i ever need to bother them direct, as the nests and basins from antstore all have inter linking capabilities, so as my colony grows, instead of moving, i can just very easily add more nests/basins
