HI!

The black colour is the "poo" of the ants :) So you dont have to be worried about it, but i would give them another, clean, testtube. So they can choose their favorit one :)

I hope you understand me and i hope i could help you too,

Right ok so why wont they move out of test tube and move into the farm area they often go in there and look around??

What is the ideal conditions for the farm area?

I keep it quite moist and keep it in darkness i think that is right yeah ? :?:

Normally that is enough, but it takes time for them to move. If they still like it in there old tube they are not going to move soon.

If they are still in hibernation (like SimGee sad) they don't move nether. ;)

Well i know that they are ment to be in hibernation but they were posted to me when they were ment to be in hibernation, and they havnt had a full period of it.
I made a topic on it not long ago.

Yes they are lasius niger.

Why would the prefer to move to another tube ? is it because it resembles there own one?

cheers guys

The black on the cotton is for sure ant sh**. After two months of ants living in tube the cotton in my test tube was completly black. And Lasius niger doesn't like to move. Very hard. So only when the water in test tube will dry out they will move to the ant displey.

Good luck

Cool. well the ants outside have all come out of hibernation, we had blue skys today and it was quite warm!!!!!

Thers not alot of water left it the test tube so i take it that they wont be in there long..

The rest of it is all fine the ants have been out and about alot, although im down to 5 now and i had a good 8 to start with ??????? i take it that the others didnt survice he short hibernation.

That is possible. Don't worry, Lasius niger is a fast growing species. (in number of worker in the colony i mean. ;) )
