If it makes you feel any better, my first queen died too. After the colony got up to 11 workers. Sometimes it happens. Since then I didn't have problems with queens anymore. Don't give up.

Well starting a colony from 0 is hardly the most exciting part but you do get some sense of acomplishment from it
I had two queens die on me but my 3rd one is doing pretty fine. She has outlived the other two by a 2months now

were there any mistakes you guys made with the first queens that died or was it just bad luck?

Just bad luck I guess. My queen was ok for months but then they got some illnes I think. One day all ants started jerking and they moved around without control. I don´t think it was something I did wrong.

I took my queen out of the test tube the 1st one and well I guess i stressed her to death she dug a hole and died the next day. I wasn't happy where she was digging a lot of the times. I was stupid ...

My 2nd queen, i had to go to tokyo for 3 months so my only option was to stock up on food and water and hope it will last her 3 months. It didnt ...

So yeah don't do what I did and that will increases your chances a lot

I think everybody here had some bad luck in the past.

Not to long ago a queen of mine died, now it turns out another one is sick, hope she will be fine. But most of my ants are doing just fine. Don't give up.

i currently had 3 queens with eggs that are doing great but not to long ago my lasius flavus queen died
and a few days ago the 3rd queen that i have escaped some where into my bedroom but the other two have around 12 eggs each so all is ok

YAY!, my herculaneus finally moved out of their tube (which is good since the cottonw wool had turned black).

Now they live in the pipe!
