Hi everyone,
I am due to receive a Lasius niger colony any day now, and i was thinking due to the time of year do i put them straight into my shed and let them hibernate? Or do i set them up into my room???
It's obviously a problem because it's half way through the hibernating period, plus from the journey will they already be in hibernation? And what state were they in when they left anstore? Were they in hibernation there?
Sorry for all the questions, cant be to careful!
Hi jimjam,
They will be in hibernation when you recieve them and it's best to keep them that way till March like antstore does.
let them hibernate still, its still mid winter, too cold, leave them until late february early march, thats when most animals wake up from hibernation
:D
Cool, i was going to do that, just making sure. I didnt know what condition they would be in when they arrived! Thanks all! \:D/
Looks like you have al your answers. ;)
Good luck with your ants.
i have a question, i have two Niger colonies in hibernation, well at least i think they are because i saw a massive pile of eggs in the t tubes when i went to check in them, I'm worried that they have woken up as the temperature was 10 c the for 2 days running(its usually about 7-8 c),should i just wake them up or is this normal.
Why does no one read up on species before buying them?!
Theres a caresheet in this forum jimjam, right at the top as a sticky, so i cant believe that the problem is that u culdnt find the answer ;)
ratgreen, no dont wake them up just yet, its going to get very cold again, this weeks warm weather is a freak system caused by El ninio in the pacific
really its gon down to beneath -0 from like 12c between a very short time, i hope the climate becomes a little more stable
lol ashhad1, pherhaps you should keep your eye on the weather reports and news a little more ;) stable is certainly not the word they are using to describe what is going to happen to our climate
I agree with u there miszt  I just hope the weather becomes normall over time so i can atleast go outside without coming back with a migrane. :(
oh and yes pls read the forum first before asking questions like miszt has said before :)
