Getting Lasius niger colony anyday...do i hibernate them?

Beitragvon jimjam » 20. Jan 2008 14:25

Hi everyone,

I am due to receive a Lasius niger colony any day now, and i was thinking due to the time of year do i put them straight into my shed and let them hibernate? Or do i set them up into my room???

It's obviously a problem because it's half way through the hibernating period, plus from the journey will they already be in hibernation? And what state were they in when they left anstore? Were they in hibernation there?

Sorry for all the questions, cant be to careful!

Hi jimjam,

They will be in hibernation when you recieve them and it's best to keep them that way till March like antstore does.

let them hibernate still, its still mid winter, too cold, leave them until late february early march, thats when most animals wake up from hibernation

i have a question, i have two Niger colonies in hibernation, well at least i think they are because i saw a massive pile of eggs in the t tubes when i went to check in them, I'm worried that they have woken up as the temperature was 10 c the for 2 days running(its usually about 7-8 c),should i just wake them up or is this normal.

Why does no one read up on species before buying them?!

Theres a caresheet in this forum jimjam, right at the top as a sticky, so i cant believe that the problem is that u culdnt find the answer ;)

ratgreen, no dont wake them up just yet, its going to get very cold again, this weeks warm weather is a freak system caused by El ninio in the pacific

lol ashhad1, pherhaps you should keep your eye on the weather reports and news a little more ;) stable is certainly not the word they are using to describe what is going to happen to our climate

jimjam, the question has been answered a hundred times already, u think its frustrating to have this kind of reaction, and I didnt intend to offend you....but how frustrating do you think it is for the regulars on here who spend allot of time answering the same questions over and over and over and over... ;)
