I too open it like these guys ,when is there 2-5 workers ,but you must to barricade the door to tube - cover it with small stone or get on it leaf.

in deed, they don't like big entrance so they will make it smaller themselfs

My Messor structor queen had workers in the last year but all died because of dryness. I added some Tetramorium caespitum larva to boost the queen as I mentioned before in this topic. She eated all the big queen larvas and only left a worker larva. Now she has the worker from this other species for help. And there are some quite big larva of her own. So she progress well again.
