ANTSTORE World of Ants

I am going Scotland in 3 days, we are going to a HUGE forest. So there should be lots of ants there
And i was planning on getting some small colonys/queens.
But im not sure how to do that so any tips on ant hunting would be appreciated.

well your not really going to get any queens now unless ur gonna dig around nests which i strongly disagree with, but if you find a small colony under a rock or so (big rocks) you could collect them as long as you dont end up destroying everything and have no results (queen, or ants)

If your lucky and its warm when your out ant hunting you should see some nice activity

One of my friends live in scotland and the most common ant he says is there is formica lemani

Be careful you do not disturb any endagered species, several Formica and other genus species in the UK are endagered, some are now only found in Scotland, dont go digging up any nests! but have fun

I wouldn't recommend ant hunting unless it's the nuptial flights. Great Britain as a whole doesn't get any decent activity till late summer which is annoying as it means you need to hibernate the queen as soon you get her, pretty much.

You could just take back some workers for studying but I don't agree with destroying nests for a queen. If you use this trip as a chance to study, then your knowledge would be much greater.

Dont worry guys im not stupid enough to go digging up ant nests.
But if i find a colony under a log or summet and they have more than 1 queen. I will take a queen and some workers.

Basiclly avoid any Formica species, and you will be fine There are largish red and black ants, and also a black species of Formica which are endagered

do a search in google for Endangered UK species Ant
