HI to all ive got a question when i have had new queens in the past of lasius niger or flavis from the mating flight ive let them start laying. Ive then added pupae to them from other colonys even from diffrent types etc(lasius niger pupae to L flavis or L flav to L niger)and they have accepted the pupae and the workers when hatched have careed and looked after the queen and larva.I have added a couple of lasius niger pupae to my camponotus herculeanus queen and shes took them and put them with her larva and cleans them.WILL THEY HELP HER WHEN THEY HATCH OR SHOULD I REMOVE THEM thankyou.ADAM
Let me know too! Sounds intreasting. I would have imagined that as they are different breeds altogether she would have eaten the eggs right away. But it just shows what I know!!! lol
I have even herd of and seen pics on another ant forum of a guy putting Messor barbarus pupae in with a Lasius niger queen and been successful, as Camponotus and Lasius are both Formicinae I think it will work.
