Acromyrmex versicolor

Here you can everything questions or discuss about ants.

I'm not sure but somewhere in this topic i found out it is not versicolor ;) i thought they where but they are more likely octospinosus not really sure about that nether. I received them from a guy in Argentina, so i guess they live there i nature.

Btw: here are two pictures of the young colony and there 'dying' fungus.

Dying fungus, you can see a big hole in the middle. Also the size is much smaller.

Yes ,very nice fungus ball Jimmy ,I am happy you have not trouble with Acromyrmex. Also I see ,colony grow fast ,I searching for Atta ants too (or Acromyrmex ,but they are more hard to ant farmering) ,so I will be also happy to have colony like you have.

Keep up the good work!

Did you try out some new food for a change? A variety of other rosaceae? Maybe that would help the fungus growth a bit... How long have you had them for?
As for the determination, and im throwing that in without having an idea- shouldnt the amount of abdominal spikes on your species identify them as A. octospinosus? Or am i mislead?
Greetings,

I have them for about 9 months now.

I'm not sure what is the best way to determinate the species. I shall have a try taking a pictures of the spikes. ;)

it is a same that the fungus is dying on your colony jimmy as leaf cutter ants are an incredible species to keep and watch,
are your ants still gathering leafs or do they not bother anymore?
