I have come to acquire a acromyrmex versicolor Queen. She is a foundress Queen with no workers, only eggs, and her fungus garden is very small. I am afraid she won't survive if I do not get her more fungus immediately. Does anyone here have a large colony of acromyrmex with fungus to spare? I don't need huge amounts, just enough for this new Queen to get started.

To start she does not need much fungus, as long as she has fungus she would de just fine, but it would not be bad to give her some more.

a good guide for the temp...

Temp below 24C will kill fungus

Temp above 28C will make the Queen sterile!

So as long as you keep her at 26C steadily, she should be ok

A good setup for leaf cutters, is to have a basin with Peat, inside a large basin, fill the large basin with water, and use a water heater to heat the water to 28-30C (check the temp in the small basin to adjust as you need)...leave the test tube open, and you will have good humidity, and good temp control

Follow that tutorial Biffe, and you should do very well

The only down side on that setup is the wire from the heating device. I heard that some species chew on it and that way expose themselves to the electricity.

a nice layer of vasaline should solve that problem

i believe the water keeps it all at the correct temp.. But miszt could help you out here a bit more i believe.

you dont need any other heating just a low wat lamp so you can see them
