I was just wondering why I so rarely see anyone talking about feeding meat to their ants. Insects are obviously ideal, but it is not always easy to find them.

I have found that very small amounts of chicken or beef (raw) are often well received by a variety of species of ant and can help with colony growth.

Is there a reason why other posters never mention this?

Its better to cook the meat, to kill many of the bacteria, parasites, and anything else that may dwell in the meat. Its just better to not feed the ants raw meat.

I take the point about bacteria, but there are bacteria on flys, and they don't harm ants. I can't see parasites being a problem. Parasite lifecycles generally rely on organisms that naturally come into contact with each other, or make up a food chain. A parasite that spread from cows or chickens through consumption of their flesh wouldn't be very successful.

You can give meat to your ants (raw or cooked) some love it some don't, you need to try that out. I don't give my ants often meat. They prefer insects, it is the biggest source for protein for them.

i very often give mine meat.. just a few days ago they had some pork.. they also love chicken.. cooked and raw.. even chicken roll.. TBH i dont think many ants are that fussy when it comes to meat..
