Yeah , Aphaenogaster subterranea lives only in one type of forest ... , so much hard to get from nature for a lot of Europeans. It lives also near my home , so I´ve taken some from there this year , they will probably swarm soon , but now is too hot to find colony , they like colder weather (up to 25°C). This specie is better than Myrmica , because it likes more dry , and colonies growing quicklier when you good feed them. Numbers of colonies of this aphaeno are limited and depends on how many colonies supliers will find in nature and these numbers are not big (10-20/shop max) , so prices are bigger. You can go everywhere to get Myrmica and how much queens you need , but this is not that same. I believe , if I will go now to nature to find nest , I will not find any - too hot and hard to find colony , not even queen ...
Also , it is not so much popular in ant-keeping by what I wrote up. It want time , when all will like it and more people will keep this specie in theirs formicariums , you have only luck Steve , you have got one
