i have read with some insects that need high humidity you can use a layer of damp chipped wood or bark at the bottom of the tank would this also work for ants ? just a thought

It might. But it could be best to use clay ball things.

clay balls are great underneath the sand in a farm, but not so good in a basin, if you want to keep the humidity up in the basin chipped wood can work, personally I prefer Spagnum Moss, as it gives a nice natrual looking ground cover, and it holds allot of water without going mouldy

clay balls go in the bottom of the farm, and then you put the sand in, it helps keep the sand moist and helps prevent flooding (see the Hyperlinks sind nur für registrierte Nutzer sichtbar ), but it wont do much in the basin to hold the humidity
