Something odd is happening to my myrmica rubra. Ive had 2 die.. There bodies bend like there going to sting or squirt formic acid.. Like how the stinger goes under the ant so it can bite and sting..( u know what i mean) Anyway there body bends that way at all times.. And they walk around like that.. Slowly and fallin alot.. Then after a few days they dont move and just twitch and die in that bent postion.. I dont know why either.. And now I have another one starting the same thing... I checked one under a lens and theres no parasites. Is there a number of reasons why this is happening? Like not enough water. To hot, to cold. the dirt and sand mix they live in? Iam not sure why, but iam getting worried and want to move them out of the basin and starter kit and maybe move them to a tube. The dirt mix iam using is half the dirt that was sent with my starter kit and half repti white sand. I also have the nest about 12 inchs or so from where i put together my games workshop models.. but I dont thinks thats the issue(glue and such) cause i have 3 different colonies in the same area that are completely fine. Thought i would ask your advice first before I moved them.

its entirly normal for a few ants to die off from a colony, how many have died in total? if its allot in a few days, thats a problem, if its only a few its not

only 2 have died out of about 30. But the way they died.. kinda slow and lethargic worried me. maybe iam panicing like a parent whos kid seems alittie sick for the first time.. lol..

yeah it sounds like a normal death to me, they get old n probly a bit achy like any old person lol

Like miszt said, as long if not to many workers die there is not really a problem. If lot of them die, and all at the same way like these 2, than you can have a problem.
