In 3 weeks time i'm off to the Cayman islands to get married... what should i do with my Lasius niger food wise?... will they last for a few weeks without anything or should i leave a few sugar cubes in with them or a few bugs? I'm not going to be able to get someone to come in and feed them as everyone is going to be with me.

for some days there is normally no problem for a colony to survive, but when you stay away for more than four days they will slightly die. I would ask my neighbors or somebody in the neighborhood to feed them, as long as you take care that there is enough food frozen and dead, most people wont have any problem feeding them.

In deed, if you feed them plenty they can survive a few days, but not weeks. I thinks it is the best way to ask your neighbors or something.

what if i leave them a really big pile of suger?

and plenty of water?

sugar is only good for the workers not for the larva. And is not enough to keep them alive for a few weeks.
