ytong plexiglass glue

Beitragvon ask2 » 5. Jun 2007 13:07

Hi

I am preparing to build a ytong(aereated? concrete) nest. And I am thinking of using plexiglass to cover it.

How do you attach the plexiglass front to the ytong?
* Screws?
* Glue?
* Combination?

If you glue it on what type of glue should I use?

Another question I have is wether to have it standing up or laying down. Pros and cons? Would be appreciated.

i have a ytong nest and i used filler which you can buy in most DIY stores it works as a sealant and doesn't have much of an odour.
i brought mine from focus
and also it doesn't matter whether it is standing up or laying down it is just safer if laying down as it is less likely to fall over

Most of mine ytong nests are "lying down" type.
Pros:
- no need to glue glass, you just put it on top
- you get more area for ants than in up-type
- if you put it onto some tray or in a vessel you don't have problems with moits - just pour some water in.

Contras
- that vertical dimension is interesting and you don't have it with this type.

Hi Ask2 and welcome.

The biggest plus on standing up farms is the room you save. ;) But they are both perfect types for making farms.

I glue the plexiglass on it with some silicone.

Thats great advice. Thanks!

I think I will go with the laying down nest. I have Camponotus ligniperda and need all the space I can get, started last night on a 600x200 mm.

Looks like a good size for them, and if they outgrow it you can always build a new nest. ;)
