Destroyed Pupae

Beitragvon nckchua » 11. Mai 2007 03:23

Hi everyone,

Well, I finally did get those eggs to hatch and I now have 2 workers ants along with my queen. It was humidity in the ant farm that was the problem.

Everythings seems to be going great, except one thing. The last 2 pupae that formed were torn apart into pieces. I'm not sure if it was the queen or the worker ants. I suspect it was probably the worker ants but has anyone else ever experienced this? Anybody have any possible reasons why this might happen? So far I am feeding them just water and honey. I was going to feed them some dead crickets after I got a few more ants.

this could of happened because the young workers need protein to grow, so they might of eaten the other eggs to help themselfs. try adding a little dead fly in there for them when u have more eggs.

That is in deed probably the reason, you need to give them dead bugs if the first workers are out. They probably stop doing it if you feed them bugs.

leave it there for a couple of days, as the colony is so small, they will be careful around outsiders, as a single ant killed it quite alot for a small colony!

As long if there is nog fungus on it you can leave it in. ;)
I feed my small colonies 2 a week, and when i give them new food i take out the old (so it is in there 3 days)
