really?? Well if you cut of the main back legs at the base, the ants can easily eat the inards. Take the abdomine and cut it very slightly at the bottom end so that there is a gap for them to enter and feed.

This worked for me. But not all ants are the same.

most of my ants like crickets to, but i is different for each colony (even from the same species) you can try stuff and see what they like the most.
I give my lasius niger bugs (spiders, crickets, mosquitos, cockroaches, flour maggots, ...) sucker-water, honey.

Plus how much food do they require??

I feed most of my colony's 2-3 times a week. If they eat it all this is good, if they don't eat it all feed them less. If you now what i mean.

indeed. ;)
For now it is enough, maybe when the colony is bigger you need to feed more. if you see they finished it the next day (what you give) you can feed them a little more or more times a week.

Most of the time i put them a few seconds in hot (boiling) water so they are dead. A let them dry a bit and the put them in the fridge. Before i give them to my ants a defrost them and they are ready to be eaten. ;)
