Hello everyone, I am from Bosnia and Herzegovina, near Sarajevo and I have 5/6 years old colony of C. vagus in my back yard and I've found two queens this spring, one in April and one month later and because her first tergite was injured I took her.
Both of them, got their first workers in few days (first was resetting because of cold weather). Now they are +10 workers each.
They are doing very great and my questions are:
Why did I found single queen month later?
Other question will confuse you probably...as it did confused me.
I have friend near Belgrade who found C. vagus queen, winged and with slightly swollen gaster, yesterday (11. September 2013.). Unfortunately that queen did escaped during photo shooting inside house, but will be hopefully captured today.
All literature about their nuptial flights are saying that alates overwinter in mother nests, but, seems like that warmer climate on Balkan makes them to have two flights per year. Could that be correct?
