Different species eggs

Beitragvon elmnt » 11. Jun 2009 21:45

Well I have recently learned that my queen is tetramorium impurum, not Tetramorium caespitum. Any way I boosted them with Tetramorium caespitum larva/ pupa about a week ago before I knew this. This morning two were born and I was amazed because i was sure they would most likely eat them. Everything was going okay when the newly born Tetramorium caespitum began attacking the Tetramorium impurum. I didn't think this was possible.... My small colony ended up having to kill the newly born workers. I was wondering if this will continue to happen because they have more pupas from the other colony. Also, i cannot find any Tetramorium impurum colonies anywhere near where I live but Tetramorium caespitum are everywhere, so should I try a different colonies eggs? Thanks

As for my personal opinion: If possible, remove the Tetramorium caespitum pupae and simply don't try to boost your colony. ;-)
There are many many different opinions regarding boosting ant colonies, but a good deal of keeping ants is about patience...

Especially with different kinds it's a very tricky thing trying to boost them. Sometimes works out fine, yet often fails... I don't think it will do any difference, if you try with another colony, as the pupae were accepted first, until they hatched....
