We got our ants (Myrmica rubra), Ant farm standart and loam & sand 1:1 last monday...i have been giving them water, strawberry, melon and dead ant from my garden...I don't know what am I doing wrong..there are dying...almost all of them...what can I do?! plz help...

I have put cotton in the 10mm hole on the side of the antfarm to give them water....i really want to know what i am doing wrong...I don't know if i set up the antfarm in the right way...I have read the How to fill the ant farm standard in the forum but i don't quite understand...I just mix the sand&loam and put some water in it while the mixture its in the antfarm... can you tell me the way or is that matters that much...could it be the reason why my ants are dying...do they need air...is the air going inside the antfarm...how can I cover the holes if I don't need them...what does the 2 holes on the side of the farm do...I have wrote to customer service as well....

but i waited till the Lasius niger went to the skys any way i got 6 Queens 1 die dont know how and the rest all nested

but do Lns stat colonies together ??? bec i looked at two and they have nested with each other and both have eggs together ???? what will happen?

Im so upset! I did everything I was told to do. I left them in the tube attached to the farm with food and water. They just didnt budge. Today I looked at my Queen and she was dead!

Now I feel very sad. Her workers are running about and she has unhatched eggs and nobody has even started to look at moving into the farm. I feel like such a bad owner! What did I do wrong?

lasius niger queens can start a colony together.but the first workers will kill them until only 1 is left

Hello!

Yeah my Queen was a Lasius Niger. I came home after the weekend and found her workers have eaten most of her body! I wonder, will the workers nurture the eggs still and raise a new queen?

Thankyou Peter for your offer, but I only have the one farm and I think if I put a forign queen in with these workers they will probably attack her 0_0 eeep!

the eggs will only become workers or males and even if it became a female alate it wouldnt be fertilised

what about seperating the wueens and giving them a few eggs each, then you could have a few colonies and all the queens will live?

yes, you can separate the queens with some eggs each. you will get a colony from each of them.

I Have a colony and was wondering what will happen when the queen dies? Will the colony die or will there be another queen?

I would also like to start another colony. I would like a large, aggressive, exotic species. can anyone recommend a good species and where i could get them and how much they might cost?
