If you were going on holidays for a month, and far far away.

What would you do with your ants?


Because i want to have ants, but in the summer i am going on holidays for a month to the other part of the world and i can't take ants with me...

I think the best is wait untill i return back...

But what would you do?

I would give them plenty of food till they will take no more and make sure that there is enough water to last a month and go.

yup i agree with Phasmid, ants can live a while without food.. but they cant live without water.. so id make sure they had plenty.. like a whole test tube filled. and id feed them up before i went away.. and the day i went id leave them a bunch of food too.

but if i put lots and lots of food they migth not take at all?

And and they can stock food with them right? So it is prefereble give them lots of living food?

I always have some friend who is also ant-keeper or terarist (animal keeper) , which can help me. When I learn him "how to" , believe he feed them and give them honey water for longer time when I am on holiday

and if in the day i leave, i leave them one tube full with water and other full with honey water?

can you not get someone else to look after them when you go?
that's what i plan to do, dont know if they'll do it when/if i go on tour
btw the TT fill with honey water might go a bit mouldy, but other wise that should be fine.

You can give them lots of food and honey water and water, but it would be better if you had someone who can check up on your ants. Try to find someone, teach him/her the basic stuff and you can go and relax on your holiday.

it migth be difficult because in the summer everybody will go on holidays

ok i dicided...

I didnt find anyone to look after ants during the summer, so I am only going to have them in middle of setembre, which is after summer.

Until there i will try to cupture some brand new queens, from here Portugal, and who knows from Macau, where i am going to spend my summer.

I will also build some formicariums and read more about ants.

If you capture new queens this mating season and put them in a tube and connect that to a small out world where you put food in, you easily can go on a holiday for a month, because the queen will be just fine on there own and when you come back she already may have some few workers.

Some of the mating seasons start in july, rigth? so i have time until there

Depends on the species, but a lot of ants have there mating flights in July.
