I am new to ant farming and have a few questions you might be able to help me with.

I am particularly interested in acquiring a Messor Structor colany.
Do these ants hibernate?

From their description, it seems at least a 60 x 40 x 40cm container is needed.

Can I substitute this minimum specified space by using 3 Ant Farm Deluxe’s?

I am particularly interested in seeing the ants tunnel and was thinking of wall mounting the 3 ant farms (one below the other) and connecting a further 4 ant boxes (also wall mounted) as feeding and waist areas. Will this be an acceptable substitute to your recommended enclosure?

Dear Manuel,

Messor structor we haven't at this moment.

60x40x40 for a container is only a idea. you can use more small container too.
for the first time is a small container a antbox or island OK too.

Do these ants hibernate? I reside in England and am hoping to keep an ant that does not need any special care in winter. (My house is heated)

Can I substitute this minimum specified space by using 2 Ant Farm Deluxe’s and 2 ant boxes? Will the ant use both farms and boxes when connected to one another?

Which colanies compare to the Messor Structor and my predevined criteria.

Dear Manuel,
Messor structor do have a smaller time for hibernate than some other european ants.
But if you want have a 12 month aktiv colonie, than you must order a tropical ants.

Seeing hibernation is an issue, I am now considering:
name: Pheidologeton spec. ?

I have some more questions based on the information provided thus far:

caste: very polymorph, larger colonies polygyn
What does this mean?

number of basins: (food-chamber; brood-chamber; trash-chamber)
Will 2x AntFarm Deluxe and 2 x Ant Boxes be enough?

Keeping in mind that I am a beginner, will this be too much to start out with?

->for the first time yes, but if the colonie some years later bigger, than you use more place for your colonie.

->For beginner is the best to start with a european species with the keeping class 1.
