Myrmica rubra

Hello

I am also a proud owner of Myrmica rubra Colony since yesterday

They don't like the Ytong for the moment. I have no idea why

Most of them run away when they get close to the ytong.
Now they stick together in and in front of the tube to the ytong nest.
Very strange if you ask me

( hope my english isn't that bad  )

how long have you had the colony and how large was it when you got it?

Myrmica rubra look like a fun species to keep. What are the large groups of ants actually doing there? is there some food under that mass?

Is Ytong moist enough? It looks pretty dry to me. M rubra likes it damp. My Ytong was always in dish with water when I kept them. And they loved it there.

I have them 2 days now :P
Found them in the garden under a stone in the garden when I was removing a bush. The ants and the bush where ruening the stone terrace :P

I hope they are fun too :P
I don't know what they where doing. I think they tried to protect the brood and queens. There was no food there.

@ mpir
The Ytong was moist enough. I put it in the water before I let the ants in and also put water in a large hole in the ytong.

The have moved now into the Ytong
They still like the tube though :P
