Ponera coarctata

Beitragvon Sphecomyrmex » 14. Mär 2008 20:12

I've just purchased a mature colony of Ponera coarctata (3 queens and 50 workers), that will arrive to me among a week. Is there someone that has had experience with this specie and that can give me some suggestion on the keeping? Is this specie easy to keep? How could I feed these ants? In winter they hibernate him or I should be careful to hold her to the warm one? They prefer a lot of damp or dry environments?

Thanks very much ;-)

Indeed, if you are not even sure about where they come from and what they eat i fear you wil not have much luck with this spieces, i wuld do allot of research before they arrive! Dont have experience with them myself, but finding out where they come from is your first step..food for most ants is usualy insects and honey

Where did you buy them? Ive not seen them anywhere for a while

I'm really sorry, but i don't see the problem...
I have asked only further information in comparison to those that I had already found before taking the colony, and even of the suggestions from someone that had had direct experience in the breeding of this specie.
Besides I didn't want to make "publicity" to the site where I have her indeed purchase, but I wanted only some suggestions...

I ask to JimmyVe to delete this discussion.

the questions you asked where basic stuff that you should be thinking about before buying Sphecomyrmex, dont be offended by what we say to you, its based on experience, and a desire to see you enjoy your colonies as much as possible :)
