Antworld - 201

Beitragvon Snoop1000 » 19. Feb 2008 11:51

I was browsing around the shop and I noticed Antworld - 201. Is Antworld - 201 good? Do you recommend it?

Thanks for your time.

Translated:

Opinion: Be aware of the fact that this Formicarium does not resemble the natural environment of ants. Thus it is not suitable for permanent antkeeping, but it can be used for short projects which require the possibility of observing the ants.

If you did replace the gel with sand, I think that it would be far to small for a colony. And it will be a waste of money when you can by a much better up-right farm instead  .

If you dont want to spent more money, you could buy this instead.

It is ok for a small colony of a small ant species.

Nice translation Cory

Thanks! :)

Can ants live in a nest made out of normal sand instead of the special ant sand?

There is no "special ant sand", and yes ants are able to build their nest in pure sand if it is moist enough. But pure sand is very fragile and will crumble. So you will have to add loam to your sand.

The starter-set to which i posted the link a few posts above, contains everything you need for the beginning, including a sand/loam mix.

Okay. Thanks for the help.

Can ants just live in a glass basin like this, without a tube leading to another basin where they can dig?

This is not just a glass-basin, it has an antfarm on one side which you can fill with the sand/loam mix so the ants can dig their nest in there.

Take a good look at the picture and you will see farm.

Ohhhh!!! ;)

I thought it was a little expensive for one basin! ;)

I'm a bit low on cash at the moment so can I raise my ants in one basin?

I know that they won't be able to dig, but do they really need to dig?

Are you talking about this basin? They are able to dig a nest in it, read my previous post.

Thera are two types of basin, some that are completely empty (so you need an extra farm for them) and some that already have an integrated farm.

I mean if I bought just a basin. Would they be able to live without digging?

Yes, but you would have to offer them a gips or ytong nest then.
