well actually, my colony dont require too much moisture, so in essence i dont control it..!! luckily, well its a plaster nest I made, so a kind of y-tongu..... and before I get any replies about no moisture, my colony thrive without it, they take what water they need from above ground.... and this particular species do not need it

Ok guys, I just took this video and some fresh photo's of my queen, this is the first time i have seen her go walk abouts since hibernating, so i guess they are waking up, it has been a little mild last few days, but temps are set to drop again this week... she seem ok, and i also noticed there are a few larvae in the egg pile.. you can just make them out in the photos, did these start to grow, or have they hibernated this size?

video went 30 secs over, cant download it.. :x

hey guys

....hmm i checked my ants agian this evening, if you scroll up and see the photo with the eggs in my last post, and then look at these, im convinced theres more, or they grew.... also made a little video on youtube, where you can see them all, queen, workers, eggs etc, (all clumps of larvae are with the ants are hanging from the roof)

would you say they are waking up....?
how long do southern european hibernate for? mine only went down end of november, and have only provided suger/water and water throughout, and this is the most activity i have noticed since hibernating them, though im sure i cannot see any fresh eggs, do you think i should begin waking them up?

youtube link keep with it, it just takes me a few to get the light right.!

Very nice pics, too long video (the second one)
It is normal for any ant queens to go out of the nest when the weather starts to be warmer; when they wake up they want to get the sunshine and go warming up.

Generally Queens will stay well within the nest, they are far to valuable to the colony for the workers to allow her to leave, many queens if they need to warm up will move to a diffrent section of the nest, of course some species do, generally only species that move nests allot tho, but certainly not on there own!

I dont know about this species tho, pherhaps someone can spread some light on it...

Very nice pics and video darradar.
Looks like your colony is doing great, yes i think they are waking up, looking at the eggs, (no eggs in hibernation) South European ants keep a hibernation from about 2-4 months. You could heat them up a bit, slowly increase the temperature.

darradar hat geschrieben::jump: yippe so they arrived today, and wow they really are pretty ants, not like our native's at all, quite delecate actaully, there are 8 workers, and about 4 eggs with the queen in the tube, they seem very active considering their long journey.
So im putting them into the small arena and taking the bung off the test tube, and allowing them to move out when they so desire.
I shall keep you up to date. :beam:

Where do you get your Camponotus cruentatus?
