am getting Cataglyphis hispanicus instead now, a black ant, still very similar to the other cataglyphis I was looking at, they shuld arrive in a couple of days, although they are already in hibernation so I will keep them like that for another month at least, maybe 2, before i put them into there tank

my colony of Hispanicus arrived today....unfortunetly only 3 have survived out of 39 and I dont think the queen is among the survivors, British Royal Mail once again exceeds itself! nearly 3 weeks from post to delivery! so heres yet another warning, dont use standard post to the UK, becuase they just DONT CARE.

Hopefully the queen is among the survivors, however none of their behaviour seems to indicate that to be the case, as they are all franticly searching their container

Sorry to hear that miszt. 3 of 39 ... sad news. I hope to the queen is still alive and that she is strong enough to start over again.

oh terrible news Miszt, hers hoping your queen is ok and can pull through....

the problem is it is very difficult to tell the diffrence between the queen and the larger majors, i found another 2 smaller workers alive earlier, but since then all 3 of smaller workers have died I now have 2 majors, one is possibly the Queen, however i've found a few dead ants that are larger than both the ants that are left, so its unlikly that one of the live ants is the queen

they've been in hibernation for a month already, so i've no choice but to bring them out and cross my fingers...heres hopeing!


Although this is a bit of a non-starter, its reaffirmed my love for Cataglyphis, they are really beautiful ants, and certainly look like they could cause a problem for someone who might try to poke around in their nest! lol their mandibles are are very big, with a very serated edge that looks razor sharp

my fingers are crossed in hope 4 u and your colony, miszt good luck i hope your queens alive and she will soon start producing a big and healthy colony 4 u

be carefull feeding them and watering them lol

The Queen should have a larger Thorax, however these all have (relitivly) the same size thorax i think thats the conclusion now...just got to wait for them to die

im sorry to hear that his colony arrived badly for you i have had personal experience with royal mail and like you say they are a waste of time thats why i use the DHL option as i have never had any problems with them.
im stilling hoping for you that one of these ants is the queen and that this colony will be able to start again.

Yeah, that is bad news miszt, I too have first hand experiance of losing an expensive colony through royal mails lousy service. Hope something good happens for you soon on the Cataglyphis front.
