@JimmyVe

Well, the magnifying glass can be a bit tricky. The biggest problem is to hold it at the same distance from the lense so that the camera can get the focus right. Some cameras are unable to focus the picture if you hold the magnifying glass directly on the camera lense. So you get blury photos instead of nice and sharp ones.

The best for makeing photos of ants are macro lenses. Such as for example Canon EF 100mm f/2.8 macro. But problem with macro photo is elswhere. It is to achive good deepth sharpnes (I'm not sure what is the english term for it) so that the WHOLE ant is sharp and not just the head or the back of the ant. To achive this you need to close the shuter as much as possible but this then means longer times. Long exposure times but usually mean blury photos especialy if the ant is moving. So tripod is a must. However, in my oppinion macro photography is the best there is.

I'd say that Sony alpha A100 is quite comparable to Canon Eos 400. They are both DSLR cameras for amaters. Choosing one or the other is a matter of personal taste. However, consider that Sony is new to DSLR cameras and a choice for lenses is smaller than at the competition. And don't forget a good lense is far more important for a good photo than the body. Of course, you need both to make a picture. :wink:

the name on the cam is sony, but the technics is still minolta!

so you can use all Minolat AF lense with the sony. and if there are less minolta lenses than canon?? i wouldnt bet on that :wink:

the sony got a few advantages, compared to the canon. especial the stabalizer ant the possibility to remote controll the extern flash with the small camera flash. thats good for macros!

Good Carl Zeiss lenses are yet to come, unfortunately I don't know the quality of minolta lenses.

Sony might have some advantages like image stabilizator, however Canon still has the best CMOS sensor with the best noise reduction. Not having to choose great ISO for making good macro photo with closed shutter is a big plus in my oppinion.

Choosing a camera in my opinion is very subjective thing. Some people like this some people like that. I'm not trying to say what camera is the best, because such camera does not existe. It's just about identifying what you need and getting the best camera for the money.

i dont want to say something about your pics with the kit-lens, the quality of that lens is not very good ;)

get a macro lens and a flash, than you can take real macros.

if you have some questions about that camera or macro lens/flas you can write me an pm.

Hello
I was just wondering, will a flash on a camera disturb or harm the ants?
