I hope they make it! Beautiful species of ant Love the long " skewers / horns " that they have + Do they use them as weapons when hunting?

They use their mandibles to capture prey and hold it while they sting and paralyze it. The little "horns" on the bottom of their mandibles are used to carry larvae and eggs!

The ants are doing well, things are looking bright for this colony. There's about 8 larvae now and they're ravenous. The queen has also begun to help her last worker in assisting on hunting but she doesn't venture out too far. She does like to explore though, but as soon as she sees me or feels potential danger she beelines back to the nest.

About a week ago the worker passed away unexpectedly. The queen is now all on her own. Luckily, she is a very good mother. She tends to the larvae, feeds them, forages for food, cleans them and the brood chamber, etc. Soon enough these larvae will pupate and she will have a work force again! Here are some photos of the queen dragging a large, preboiled half-cricket into the brood chamber. More photos on my facebook page.

Thanks Camoth! I hope so too. The queen is always tending to her brood, this is the first time I've seen a queen restart a colony by herself so successfully. I just wish that I still had the second queen still in the nest

More to update! The colony's larvae continue to grow. The queen is hanging in there, she really is a fighter! Ants are tough!
