I’m anggoro, I came from Indonesia, in southeast asia, I found my self deeply attracted to ants world lately, especially at oechophylla smaragdina/ green weaver ants/ rangrang (Javanese/Indonesian term for o.smaragdina)
as a newbie in ant lover world, i would love to get help to have some informations about o.smaragdina reproduction :
1. whether the queen candidates should be mated my male ants to get eggs for raise her colony or not? in some source from internet, there was an opinion that an o.smaragdina queen candidate, marked with wings attached on her body , and green to light brown colour , can’t produce eggs withouth being mated by male ants, she needs to be mated first then she will become queen, marked with shattered wings, and become dark brown to black in colour, after mated, she will laid eggs, that will become workers/minor and soldier ants/mayor and some of the eggs will become queen eggs and male eggs that will replace her positions in the future
2. Some opinion, that a colony of Oecophylla smaragdina that only contain workers/minor and soldier/ mayor without a queen can reproduced by lay their eggs, this seems to be not logic to me, but is this possibly happen?
3. Some opinion said that if we have a male ants (winged and black colour) in our Oecophylla smaragdina colony, he will become destructive due to his cannibalism behavior, this one is seems not logic too for me, due to God must be creating male ants for some reasons in reproductions
Anyone can help me to explain to me/ share your experiences with this question, thanks before for your help
Regards
Anggoro
