Hi,

A few questions:

Are they in the fridge now?
When are you leaving?
How big are the colonies?

A healthy, well fed colony should be fine without food for a couple of weeks. As long as they have access to water. Keeping them a little cooler should lower their need for food, but i wouldnt put them back in the fridge if they just finished hybernating.

If they are hibernating now and you are leaving soon (say, before april) just keep them in the fridge.

I will go on a trip myself this summer, i will make sure my European ants have a full testtube of water, with a cotton plug, to drink from. Maybe one extra with some suger water. They will survive for 3 weeks, no problem. I will turn off any heat source to slow down development of the brood.

I will ask somebody else to look after my tropical ants, i am not so sure they will survive without care for 3 weeks. Lasius niger will be fine.
