Antianer is right. You should hope that a house infestation is caused by Lasius flavus. Its very hard to get rid of Pharao ants. By the way , are you just asking or do you have an ant infestation in your house? If you have an infestation , please try to make a picture in good resolution and post it here to help us help us identifying the species.

I once woke up to find allot of Lasius niger in my kitchen cupboard, they got in from a hole in the bricks near the kitchen door or something.
My husband and father in law patched it up all the while saying very loudly.. "Dont kill them your wife will be upset!.. should we hold a funeral for the casualties." To which I replied.. "They are stealing my expensive muscovado sugar they get no amnesty from me"

The common yellow house ant is called Lasius flavus indeed.
And yes they can be kept as pets.

As far as I can tell the Monomorium pharaonis (Pharao ant) is normally not kept as a pet.
Although it is possible of course as long as you have a furtile queen.
I would not recommend these species as pets though if they escape you have a big infestation in your home in no time :P

I've found an ant queen of the Pharaoh ant trying to relocate to a new nest maybe, and they we're leading to my P.murinus tarantula terrarium which is sand and no water, why would they go there? I murdered the queen and the ants,i hope they dont have much more queens because these species have more then one queen,i will upload a picture of them relocating the queen soon. I've pictured her before i had to the nasty stuff :(
