Hello all

Well, this is my second ant colony, the last time did something wrong, and it looked like they all comitted suicide ..

Now i'm trying again, and this time i'm doing much better.
They have almost moved out of the testtube and into the other glass thing, or started to move the eggs. .. (not sure what its called, but it the high thin one)

Now to my question:
Its like the ants are walking arround, looking for something. But can't figure out what it is.
They got Water, from some wet vat
Gel
Flies
some kind of corn?

Any ideas ?

Hello and welcome to the forum,

to answer your question we need to know what ant species you have.
Most ants will need some sugar solution or honey solution.

Do you keep your ants in one of those gel antfarms?

i got the Lasius niger
Got 13 and there are more then 20 now and lots of eggs

No, i bought the starter kit, so got the glass thing with the sand-clay in, thats the one they are about to move into

But i give them some Gel everyday, that i bought from Antstore ?

Well normally people are worried because such small colonies are not active enough. I wouldn´t worry to much if none of the ants dies.
However I would feed them a little honey solution. The gel isn´t bad but all ants I fed it to weren´t as interested in it as they were in sugar and honey. Probably because of the higher energy content of honey and sugar.

Maybe the testingtube dried out and they are looking for a better spot for a nest? Nobody will be able to say for sure without being there. But it doesn´t sound like anything to worry about too much!

Well, my ants are very active, a bit slow in the morning, which i find a bit wierd, because i didn't think that ants slept ?

I'll try to feed them with some honey.

There's a lot of fluid back in the test tube, and they have moved all the eggs to the Farm, so i it looks like they have found some where ells to live



I got another question too:
i've been thinking about for a while, what happens if another queen comes out of one of the eggs ?

Well in the morning it probably is colder so they move a little slower.

Alates (males and queens) only hatch in really big colonies. It will take years until your colony is big enough.
