My queen has died

Beitragvon russell » 24. Sep 2012 20:36

hi
i collected a very small colony of Tetraponera rufonigra about 4 days ago
when i received them there were a lot of dead bodies and parts of the
dead ants scattered in the terrerium
there was about 15 workers a queen and about 10 eggs at different stages
anyway i got home and put them in my vivarium and all seemed ok but
they didnt touch ANY food i gave them i tried waxworms crickets
a fly a moth and a tiny spider i also tried both dead and alive
they would just totally ignore it and walk straight passed it
the only thing i saw a couple of them try was sugared water
unfortunatly the 2nd morning i started to see a few dead ones etc
just curled up on the bottom of the tank
theres a few things that spring to mind that could be the cause of there
deaths which is i used super glue only very small amounts to cover up the air
holes as they were very big and they could easily crawl out
do you think it could be the smell of the super glue because i have four
workers left and every1 that has ended up dieing were very slow and
it was if they were drunk as they kept falling over and ending up on there
backs
i have also used wood from outside BUT i put it all in boiling water
and poured the kettle over it so im guessing it wasent that and it was
maybe the toxins from the super glue or it was the previous owner
and they sold them to me knowing they were dodgy since there were
a lot of bodies in his tank

can someone please help me out
cheers
