A couple of UK species

A couple of UK species

Beitragvon jon777 » 30. Jun 2011 21:14

Hello all,

Just a couple of easy ones for you (i think). Just need confirmation as i may be collecting more to keep :D

All were found in Cornwall in the UK

There are three ants. The first was by far the biggest and basically all black (in case this is unclear in the photos). I found in and under neath logs.
The second was a lot smaller and appears to be all black and wouldnt stop moving! im guessing Lasius niger? I found under some logs.
The third i found quite a few feeding on nectar. They were all amber. Im guessing they are Myrmica rubra?

First looks like a Serviformica sp.

The seconds one looks like a Lasius sp. wich lives in wood. Maybe emerginatus or umbratus.... dont know :)

The last one looks like Myrmica sp. U can see the spines on the thorax wich are pointing to the gaster. That means its not Manica rubida
