Have you ever thought about keep some colony what represent your own skills? ... :) , because in your own collection I just see very common species , easy to keep in your store´s formicary types. I know that Canada is a bit poor of species because of northern location , but in fact I would like to see in your videos , maybe some primitives Ponerinae or so ... it is thing what can put AntsCanada on "map of keepers of world" ... because by this way you just ask beginners to keep ants , and they just think that some species of f.e. Myrmica could be difficult to keep..... , commercial , nothink what give up worldwide ant-keeping more professional.
Sorry for my opinion :D

No problem, Skippy. Every person is entitled to their own opinion. Here is my response to that.

We love these common ant species and do not care if they are ordinary or easier to keep :D . In our eyes they are just beautiful and we are showing the world that beauty lies in the simplistic, common local species in their yard. For now, we have our beautiful set of famous star colonies that we prefer to feature, and yes they may be "common", as you say, but they are still infinitely amazing! You are incorrect in saying the ant species diversity is limited in Canada; in Toronto, there are so many species of ants and we want to demonstrate that people DO NOT need to buy exotic or non-native species to enjoy a fulfilling ant keeping experience. The best ants can be found right in your back yard! Our store truly encourages this ideal.

In terms of the efficiency of our products, our products have been used by hundreds (soon thousands) of ant keepers all over the world (11 countries now and growing) and our clients include The Discovery Channel producers, museums, and schools. That to me seems pretty international and is the proof in the pudding. Our products have been effective for so many species, and we get mail every day on how well ant keepers' ants are doing in our products. We have a great team and have great expert advice from many myrmecologists who have helped us design top formicaria and ant keeping gear.

In terms of being commercial, my goals for the company were not to bring ant-keeping to already expert ant keepers, but rather to introduce the activity and knowledge to new audiences, especially the youth. We are all very happy about The AntsCanada Ants Store's branding. In a world where Uncle Milton toy ant farms are the norm when seeking an ant farm in the commercial pet trade, I along with our superior team have launched more than just a commercial retailer. We've launched a movement, which has initially been more of an underground thing, but is now acquiring a greater mainstream audience every day, as new eyes are shown the wonders of professional ant keeping and the unbelievable possibilities of observation of these amazing animals when housed in the right setups. Our goals however are even greater than just this: we know that in educating the public, we are also thereby promoting bioliteracy and habitat conservation, and this is the base purpose of all that we do.

We are at peace with all that the store has and will accomplish over the next few years and am very pleased with our work and with the amazing professional and knowledgeable people we've built associations with, including our beloved customers!

:)

Anyway, here is a video on Social Parasites and Semi-claustral Ant Species:

Mikey, you are true. But ant keeping never becomes so popular and common as keeping of another types of insects! For me and my friends here of Czech and Slovakian formicarist´s, it means also to know a lot around ant biology, morphology and ethology. It´s necessary for profesional ant keeping, like are these things necessary for example in keeping of beeses... People who keeps ants like some non-eusocial insects- for example like cockroaches, bugs or etc, maybe just wont know much needless for ant keeping and than their ,,ant keeping" become of stressing ants and other things...
Skippy ment, that you offer most common species. Cant you catch, get some more interesting? I never
In my own opinion, on your plastic islands(Habitat outworld)- I dont think for example Myrmica or Lasius need so big watter buwlark.... Wasting of plastic :)

:) Those who speak English know full well that our site promotes all of those: ant biology, ecology, morphology, nutrition/diet. All our video tutorials cover a vast array of ant keeping aspects. Again, reread my post as I've addressed all of these points above (e.g. regarding the keeping of common species). I am quite happy with how things are and we've helped hundreds already. All is well. :)
