I know...it seems like a crazy question... but has anyone ever started a termite colony from a newly mated female? If anyone has any experience with termites, please tell me.

So first thing you have to know is that there is a big difference in ants and termites.
The termite males stay with their females all their live and the females copule all live over.
I didn´t keep them myself but everyone i know who kept them says that they are very boring. Later they get big soldires but you never see a single termite out and you barley see them if you can look inside the nest. The ones that eat wood are mostly not keepable because the colonies reach some million individues and the nest is as big as a little house lateron.
As far as i know the colonie grows very slow and needs sometimes new males but i´m not sure about that.
All people i asked to this said that termites are not good for keeping, on one hand they are hard to keep on the other they are just so boring.

well termites reproduction rate is so high that it isn't recommended. 30000 eggs a day....

Well, I'll be keeping a native species, so I could let them go if i didn't want them anymore (not near the house... )

Wich species exactly?

Eastern subterranean termites(Reticulatermes flavipes). Their the only species native to here.
