Hello
Thank you from this lovely pics (and also videos on youtube!), I saw some of your videos of this ant and it was quite interesting :)
I know this ant specie just few years, I´ve read about it in some old myrmecological books and than I´ve heard about somebody who was selling Tetramorums with queens of this ant, but it wasn´t interesting for me that time, I don´t have good experience with Tetramorium caespitum- feeding and etc.....
But I see here is somebody interested and experienced, who keeps Strongylognathus and can show us very nice photos and tell somethink interesting about :) Thank you very much :)
How many worker does Tetramorium and Strongylognathus have together in one colony, like organism...? I mean, what is approach of Tetramorium and Strongylognathus workers, for example 100/30 ???

Hi Messorus,

usually Strongylognathus workers are only 2% oft the workers of one nest.
@Flan; really great diary, i hope you'll often make some updates :)

Thank you :)
In adult colony, ratio is 100 T.caespitum to 1 S.testaceus but the colony grows unusually big, so the amount of S.testaceus workers will be significant.

Edit
Pi: 2% sounds good too

Thx, my first post was just like example, but also I´ve thought that Strongylognathus are something about 5 or 4% :(

Now I remember that in spring of 08 I´ve found died and extremelly small queen in a bowl of water in a cage of my cats, outside and than I´ve determinated it like Strongylognathus or somebody told me, I don´t know, but she was too small asiI didn´t put her to alcohol...

Thank You :)

Cannon PowerShot SX100 IS,
nothing special (640X480 , 25fps). Better for taking pictures.

Panasonic Lumix DMC-TZ7.
Great HD 1280x720 recording . Zoom + auto focus are available while recording.
Poor for taking macro pictures. European version has 15 min limit of recording video in HD  (but Lumix DMC-ZX3 probably can record until card is full).

That's not all. You have to attach something, that will change zoom into magnifying glass.
For example - macro converter.
I'm using lens from old slide projector  .
