yep, clean out the food (the ants don't eat) and clean up the death workers and all the stuff they put out on the garbage pail.

Hey Guys,

Well its been awhile since I've posted so I thought I would write a quick update. The ants appear to be happy, I've started to feed them cold meat on a daily basis. The are still not very active in the day time, will this change as the colony grows? Another question I have is about the second batch of eggs that were laid some time in June, they don't seem to have grown much and its been around two months. The queen is still guarding them, which I presume she wouldn't if they weren't going to hatch???

My last question is regarding the drinking trough, I've not seen any ants drinking from it. Does the drinking trough in the picture look suitable??

Thanks Guys,
Dave

Hey Guys,

I've not seen much of the ants at all... I know they are still alive. The second batch of eggs still haven't hatched yet. Could they have gone into hibernation?

Thanks Guys,
Dave

The temperature seems a little high for them to go into hibernation but it could be. If they are not very active lower the temperature slowly so they can go into hibernation. I'm only worried about the eggs, most of the time they will not survive hibernation, but its a little late to let them hatch before hibernation.

Hey Guys,

I thought my colony's test tube was getting a bit dry, so I put together a new one. I've covered the new tube and removed the cover from the old. Its been in around a day now but they don't seem too interested. I guess I just have to wait it out... Any advice would be appreciated.

Thanks Guys,
Dave

JimmyVe hat geschrieben:It could help if you take the old food out sooner, than you will have less mites because they have less food.
I feed my ants every 2 days and once a week i clean out the out world. There are mites to but not much, when i see there are more mites coming i clean the outworld 2 times a week.

i don't clean my "multi species community basin" anymore because the pheidole take it all away lol, dead ants of the other species, left overs everything, they are like little cleaners
