if it was attached to a thermostat then maybe.. otherwise id have to say no, also i think that the 100w one thats in that pic would possibly be a little too strong... not 100% Personally i only use heatmats.

I use a 50 watt lamp and it keeps a 2ft fish tank at 30c. Not that lamp tho, a 50w infa red lamp.

You don't need to put the lamp inside of the farm, place it on top of it. That way the ants can not reach to it.
Also, test it out first, how much heating it will give to you farm before you put the ants in it.

Jimmy, I check it on daily basis, and i'm in need to get the temp up a bit more, but i've manage to get the right humidity. I was just curiose if the ant would walk on the lamp, and burn themself to death. or if they were smarter.

I'm still not there, your heating lamp, is it inside of the farm ? Maybe you can place some pictures of your setup.

I agree with Steve, how high is the temperature in the corner acrosse the heating lamp ? If its cold enough i see no problem. Still there is the question about the ants getting on to the heating lamp. It would be best if they couldn't. Isn't there a way you can put the heating lamp outside the setup ? Still think that is the best way.

My ants dont crawl on the lamp cos its hotter than the sun and it'll kill them. Surely they know how close they can get before they start to cook.

Jimmy sead: "there a way you can put the heating lamp outside the setup" ...hm I don't think so, not with this model of lamp. Coz' it provides heat kind of, around it. Not "straight down"...Purhapse I can "bend" a mosquito net around it (in steel)...
