She could be hidden in a gap in the wood, they feel safer in tight spaces. Get a torch or something and have a good look at any little crevices.

Hey Guys,
After posting I started tearing my house apart. After pulling the washing machine out I returned to the living room to find her crawling across the floor! I've replaced her into the basin, which to my suprise turned out to be easier than I thought. She was very lively, I've taken this as a good sign. Shes just giving herself a good clean.

I've decided to remove the drift wood from the basin for now, I've also moved the basin off the table and on to the fire place. Could anyone hazard a guess as to how this happened? I had the drift wood with me when I came into the living room so she wasn't in there. I know I've said this already but I have no idea how this could of happened? I have not applied PTFE to the basin yet as the lid is on all time. I've taken precautions by weighting down the lid and making the seal between the basin and lid better (I didn't think it was a loose fit in the first place as there were no gaps)

I'm just pleased she is ok...

Once again any advice would be appreciated.

Glad u found her mate.. This is one of those reasons why she should be just left alone lol.. If i was you thought id seal her test tube put her somewhere dark.. and then Put a good 2" layer of PTFE all around that tank.. Just to be sure.. then place her back in.. id also get a heat mat.. just to speed things up a little Good luck with her and i hope she makes you a lovely colony

Yeah it was a challenging time! I have a heat mat already so I'm all good there, I have the temp set to 25 in the day and 22 in the evening. I'll have a think about plugging the test tube but I would be worried she might starve or dehydrate?


I'm at work right now so there is a chance she could of escaped by the time I get home! I still can't think of how she managed to get out the first time!

i didnt mean to keep it plugged up.. just while you did the PTFE.. But saying that.. i keep queens in a sealed test tube untill they have first workers, as long as the test tube has water they should be fine. I usualy unplug the end every now and then to recycle the air.. and occasionaly offer a small bug.. or maybe some honey. Usualy this works well for me.. not had problems yet

Hey Guys,
I've had my Queen over a month now so I thought I would write a quick update. I have pretty much left her unchecked for the last two weeks. She now has around 9eggs and 3larve I'm very pleased.

Hey guys,

I'm not sure how long it has been but none of the eggs have hatched yet. The queen has laid a new batch of eggs which are growing at a steady pace. The original batch are all in cacoons now which are starting to brown.

It was April the 12th when the first batch of eggs were laid. I was suprised to see that she had laid another batch. The tank is still being held at 25c in the day and 23c in the evening. I'm still changing her water and her food but as far as I know she hasn't eaten yet. I am aware that Camp. Lig's development time is lengthy but is two months too much? I'm not too worried just yet but any advice would be appreciated.

not at all... they are very slow dude.. when the colony is small it takes some time to get going... mine have a nice little pile of cocoons.. and they been there for a good 2 months too..
