I know it was over kill lol. Well I have been thinking about making their tank. I will this 2 gallon tank.

Bild

I think it is a bit big. What do you think?

Any way Can you post a recent picture of your colony up to date. I would love to see them in their set up. I have read the thread of the making of your colony's home but the pictures do not work in google translator. So can you do a brief explanation here?

That would be great.

Also have you got any tips on looking after there guys for the coming months. You told me how to look after the queen in founding stage. I would like to know how to keep the queen after she has had her first couple of workers?

Thankyou

Abz

I have some great pictures for tomorrow of the pogos! :)

I had one exact the same for my Pogonomyrmex (as an start up box).
They escapes through the holes in the lid. Trust me they will....

Keep the food (bugs) coming, keep it moist, get rid of all un eaten food, dont bother them to much, try many different kind of food, read all there is about your ants on the net, have a lot to do for the ants in the formicarium (climb, hunt, explore, dig, find).

The whole idea with the "un translateble thred" is that if anything breaks down in the formicarium I could change it with out opening the formicarium and that it should look something like how it looks where Pogos live...

Hi guys I have been working on the ant tank project. I started with a plastic tank from pet store.
Then I made this y-tong nest:

My sister painted it with a special non toxic paint. It should be fine for the pogos.

I then made some ornaments.
First is the water volcano

Water can be injected through the top so the ants can drink from it.

I have also made a dish for seeds. This is be placed into the plaster in my plastic tank.

Here is a old picture of the queen lol

I will update you when everything is finished :D

Looking good!

Can you PM me exactly what paint you used? I´m on a paint-hunt for my new formicarium.
It looked great! Have you tried to soak it with water? Does the paint stay intact?

Hi guys quick update. I put the colony for a small 1 month or so break. the temp have now been rised to 30c. brood has started to grow much faster now. Last time i checked there were 2-3 larve, 2 pupea and finaly more eggs. They have also been moved to another foraging area. It is a bigger then the ferrero rochea they were in. They are much more quite now though they don't forage as much anymore.
