who can tell me the distinguish Pogonomyrmex and Messor, they all mean harvest ants but why have 2 genus name?

First of all Pogonomyrmex only lives in in South and North America, Messor is spread across Asia, Europa and Africa. Pogonomyrmex also has a stinger, which Messor nearly doesn´t have though belonging to the subfamily of Myrmicinae.
Also there are some differences in the look of the workers and the queen.
