I haven't had this colony long and I'm amazed at their growth rate. The just eat and eat and eat.

Sorry about the picture quality, I'll try and get some better ones.
2 soldiers just savaged a spider, thats all thats left to the right of them, a little abdomen.

Any tips on getting good photos of these tiny ants would be appreciated
Thanks.

What camera do you have?

Even the Cheap Cameras have the "MACRO" function. This function is used for closeup pictures.

This way you should get them better in focus.

As far as i know, the sign for Macro should look like this

Thanks creature, I've tried that but the glass from the tank affects the quality, i might have to get the camera into the tank and take some like that. Is there a better way to take pictures through the glass, my camera is a FUJIFILM finepix z

If you want to make pictures through the glass you need a manual lens to set the focus by hand. the auto focus always focuses on the glass

This is the set up I've created my for my colony, it is big but I don't plan on upgrading it again. They live in a test tube in the basin at the moment, when the colony is large enough I will heat the y-tong and they should move in without any troubles when the time is right. The top of the y-tong has a reservoir to keep it moist. I've made a lid and weighed it down with a heavy metal rim to ensure there are no tiny gaps for them to escape.
Any advice on the basin substrate would be appreciated, I'm using desert sand at the moment slightly worried it could be a bit dry though.
