My Pallidula colony is now setup in their nu Panoramic-Farm-Basin (30x20x10), I choose that one as these guys grow very fast and into very big colonys, so hopefully this tank will last at least ~2years (equivilant to 100cm x 10cm farm)
The sand is a mix of 25% Loam, 25% white sand & 50% yellow sand, theres about 1cm of Clay agregate on the bottom of the farm, and the sand goes upto about 1cm over the farm area so the foraging area is 1cm deep in sand
I've decorated it with pieces of Cork bark, a few seed casings and a few plastic plants
Colony Status: 17th August 2007
1 Queen
4 Workers (originally 7, but had a disaster lol)
6 Pups
20 Larvae
20 Eggs
Unfortunetly I over wet the sand, so I'm not expecting the colony to move out of the test tube for a week or so at least
Escape proofing: Have heard lots of tales about these guys getting thru anything and everything, so i've got a 3 tier defence against it, firstly I'm using Vasaline ~2cm strip around the top of the basin, secondly I've put a libral amount of Vasaline around the inside edge of the lid, so theres no way they can get thru the gaps, and thirdly the tank is sitting in tray of water, raised up, so if they get past the vasaline, they wont escape past the water...thats the plan anyway hehe. Vasaline worked very well for my Nylandri, another good escape artist, so hopefuly it will for these guys to
