Messor barbarus with Temnothorax nylanderi -> it works we

(sorry for my poor english, I made efforts to write well...)
(sorry for the poor quality photographs...)

Hello!

I did Mixing Messor barbarus with Temnothorax nylanderi in the same basin and I will try to present it.

The basic terrarium makes in 10/10/20, it is the small model of the glass farm bassin of Antstore.

T. nylanderi is in half a shell to the right of the bassin.
The entrance makes the size of a head of pin to forbid the access to barbarus.
Tours of the shell is armoured with some clay for pottery.

Mr. barbarus are in a nest half BC (left wet), half clay.
The entrance is of the highly-rated of the BC.
The observation is made in the back of the terrarium.
The part in clay lets seem the light through a wide window plexi red to ease the observation.

The moistening is made via a small well filled(performed) with a syringe. The water flows by a chink between both fragments of the BC and the full excess passes by in the bottom in some white clay mixed in fragments of pierrite.

For the water of drink, I tinkered a small system with an end of pipe of aquarium, some cotton and some silicone.
The whole concealed in the clay.

And finally a fine coat of substratum (grit + clay), a little decoration with false cut plants, a little dry peat and some gravels.

Temno was introduced in 1st.
They were already in a shell, but the entrance was too wide, I preferred not to take risks for the cohabitation...
Not complicated, I returned the ancient terrarium on the highly-rated, I tapped on the window "to unstick" larvas and bring down them at the bottom of the shell, then I more had that everything it contained in the new shell has to decant.

I have since the clay dries around the shell before introducing M. barbarus.
I just emptied the tube in it was in hiding and forced the gyne to get into the nest with a brush.
The workers did not follow at once, but one of the most ancient forced them the step in the drawling of strength meadows of the queen with the brood.

Temnothorax is approximately 50, Messor is only 25.

Understood well barbarus did not put for a long time in localized the nest of nylanderi. They have little to look all around , torn away two or three stalks of peat, and even tried to enter but unsuccessfully. Then they left fallen.
Temno went out (10 except the nest!!! Lol  ), certainly attracted by move it household creates by the neighbours.
M. barbarus met T. nylanderi , but no aggressiveness! Temno continues their road and messor ignores them after a little experimentation with their antennas.
Thus phew, at the moment that takes place well :D

All good.. looks great well done :)

However as the barbarus become a bigger colony you may find them gettin more aggressive.. but as long as the temno can run away and hide you should be ok!

Nice setup, hope it keeps going well between the two but it is still a risk.

Good luck.
