Hello, my small colony of Formica sanguinea has two queens, but they both refuse to lay eggs.
I give them everything: protein food, sugary food and water.
The colony exist of around 30 workers whith no brood.
I'm very worrried about this.

Hi Steph,
don't know about your setup, but maybe they just hid their brood somewhere out of sight? I keep the same species and at some point thought the queen took a rest from laying eggs only to realise a couple of days later that the colony kept the fresh eggs somewhere I couldn't see.
So I hold my thumbs your ants are simply good at hide-and-seek, too.

They can't really hide somthing in my setup, but maybe they hid it deep in the cotton of the testube. Or they are just having a rest period.

I've had the same issue this year with my queen. Moisture and heat are essential for the queens to lay, along with a stable food supply. Hope this works!
